5 Reasons Your Hair Gets Greasy Quickly

Wednesday, November 17, 2021

Are you also a person who feels like your hair gets greasy immediately after washing and drying it? You are not the only one.

Greasy hair is a problem that bothers many, but the reasons why your hair gets oily quickly can be various. We struggle with oily hair during different periods of our lives. Most people notice an increase in greasiness during the period when our hormones are overworking.

There are a large number of women who are in their thirties or forties still battling oily hair. We all know that the oil secreted by the scalp is beneficial for both the skin itself and the hair, but the truth is no one wants to walk around the world with greasy hair. There are only so many days we can go without washing our hair for it being acceptable. (Photo by Mathilde Langevin on Unsplash)

The truth is that we are usually not even aware that we are often responsible for excessive grease secretion. Just as we can cause greasy hair, there are some ways we can get rid of it. Below are the 5 most common reasons for excessively greasy hair and how to get rid of it.

5 Reasons Your Hair Gets Greasy Quickly

You Don't Rinse The Shampoo Correctly

One of the most common reasons why our hair is greasy and lifeless is insufficient shampoo rinsing. Before you apply shampoo to your scalp you need to emulsify it for a few seconds between your palms. Once you apply the shampoo to your hair with your fingers, you should rub it as well as possible into each part of the scalp.

But don't rub too harshly. You should also rinse it thoroughly so that there is no excess shampoo left on your scalp. Start from the very top and towards the ends and rinse a little longer than you think you should.

You Use The Wrong Shampoo & Conditioner

If you have very oily hair and use shampoos for hydration and deep hair care, you are only making yourself an even bigger problem. Avoid all shampoos and conditioners that contain heavy oils and fats, and choose slightly lighter options.

If you are not sure which shampoo to use, there are also personalized shampoos that you can order specifically for your hair type. I personally love Garnier Fructis Grow Strong Shampoo. You can read the whole review HERE.

You Wash Your Hair Too Often

When you wake up every day with greasy hair, you may think that the best solution is to wash it every day. The truth is, that is not a smart decision. Hair should be washed about two to three times a week, and anything more than that will only encourage the scalp to secrete even more grease.

We need to keep in mind that grease is beneficial for our hair. Removing it makes the secretion even more severe. Try to extend the time between two washes. This may seem strange at first, but after a while, the scalp will start to regulate sebum production.

You Use Too Many Hair Products

Shampoo, conditioner, mask, leave-in conditioner, varnish, gel, cream, serum, etc. If you use all these products at once, the chances are higher that your hair will get oily faster. All these products deposit small amounts of ingredients in the hair itself, but also the scalp, which is not a problem if you use only a few.

To get rid of the deposited products from the hair and scalp, wash them with a shampoo that is intended specifically to remove accumulated deposits. I noticed that my hair gets greasy faster if I use conditioner too often. Try to use only two products per wash.

You Keep Touching Your Hair

If you are constantly playing with your hair with your fingers and touching it, finger oils can easily transfer to your hair. I must say that I am guilty of this one. It was even more problematic when I was a teenager. The same goes for combing.

If you comb your hair too much or touch it, you will stimulate the glands to secrete even more sebum. Be sure to wash the comb you used while your hair was greasy. Try to restrain yourself and not touch your hair as much. Once you wash, dry and style it, refrain from touching it constantly, but also from combing it too much.

I know how annoying it can be when you washed your hair, and the next day it is greasy again. These are only some of the reasons you are constantly needing to wash your hair. Try keeping them in mind whenever you wash your hair or start touching it.
