Are you planning a vacation?

There are some not so fun but important things we need to get done before we leave for a relaxing vacation. Checking off these things will make your whole journey stress-free. You'll know that you did everything you needed to make sure that everything goes smoothly.

10 THINGS YOU NEED CHECK OFF BEFORE YOU GO ON VACATION

PREPARE A GO-BAG OF ESSENTIAL ITEMS

Packing is something that most people dislike about traveling. Deciding which things to take and which to leave can be very stressful. There is always that fear of forgetting something or bringing too many things. After you packed all of your clothes and things that you won't need until you are at your destination it's time to pack a go-bag of essentials. This is a bag that you will have with you at all times. In this bag put all of your documents, keys, gadgets, chargers, snacks, medicine, itinerary, etc. You never know what can happen on the way and if you travel by plane your suitcase can go missing. This way you know that all the important things are with you.

KEEP AN EXTRA SET OF CHARGERS READY

Nowadays, everything is on our smartphones. Losing or not taking a charger is something that nobody wants. If you are going to another country, without a smartphone it will be hard to ask for help or find your way around. Be sure to take an extra charger or even better a portable charger for all of your devices. With them, you can power your gadgets on the way and don't need to worry that you'll run out of battery.

PRINT ITINERARY

It may seem unnecessary to print itineraries when you have your phone and can easily look up everything you need. Again, this is to be extra cautious. You never know what can happen. You may lose your phone or forget to charge it. It doesn't take long for things like this to happen. Printing the itinerary, all-important addresses, and phone numbers is one of the ways you can make sure that you are ready for any kind of situation.

MAKE COPY OF DOCUMENTS

With storage, hard drives, and bulk storage alternatives, it may seem like paper copies of valuable business documents are not necessary. Why would you need physical paper copies when you can have an unlimited number of digital copies? Well, when you are traveling the safety needs to come first. With crowds and pocket pickers, you can easily end up losing your documents. That is something we tend to forget. Having a copy of all your documents ready in a place you are staying or your bag is what will come useful if something happens.

WATER YOUR PLANS

If you are a plant mom and you are leaving your babies alone while you are away you don't want them to die from thirst. If you are going for more than a week it would be best if you could have someone come and check your plants. If not make sure that you water all of your plants before you head out. There are also glass watering globes you can buy and simply stick into a pot to water your plants. This is a budget-friendly and easy way to give your plants enough water while you are away.

CHECK FOOD EXPIRATION DATE

The last thing you want to see when you come back is spoiled and rotten food in your fridge. A few days before you leave for your vacation make sure to eat up everything that could expire while you are gone. If there is a lot of food you can meal prep and freeze them. That way you will have food ready when you are back. If you don't manage to eat all the food give it to your family or friends. Everything is better than wasting good food.

TAKE OUT THE TRASH

Empty the trash and recycle it before leaving. Get rid of anything that can decompose and become bait for bugs. Take the rubbish containers out before you go. While you are doing the last cleaning session before going, check every room and look for any trash that may be left behind. Nobody wants to come back to a house that smells of garbage. This will only take you a few minutes. Don't forget about the containers.

UNPLUG APPLIANCES

Your electronics use energy just by being plugged in. When going on a vacation, unplug all computers, televisions, and any other appliances you're not using. This way you will save energy but also protect your home from unwanted accidents. It will also help decrease energy waste but also protect your beloved gadgets in case of an electrical storm. Go through every room and unplug everything that is plugged.

LOCK ALL THE DOORS AND WINDOWS

Once all of your suitcases are ready, it is crucial to lock up every potential access to your house. Everything from the windows to the front you should lock for protection. Close all the blinders to protect your home from direct sunlight and heat. If you are good with your neighbors let them know that you are leaving so they can check if any suspicious cars or people are hanging out around your home.

PACK IMPORTANT MEDICINE

With covid 19 still happening in the world, it should be your priority to stay safe and healthy. Don't forget about any prescription medicine you need to take. Make sure that you have a first-aid kit with you for any sudden injuries. We all know how important hand sanitizer and antibacterial hand wipes are. Place one in every bag you take to make sure that you can always have it by your hand. Mosquito bites can be very unpleasant so having insect repellent will be of use. Of course, we can't go on Summer vacation without sunscreen. Regularly reapply it to prevent any sunburns.
