4 Ways To Deal With A Stressful Situation

Thursday, January 14, 2021

Stress is something most of us deal with on a daily basis. It can be caused by different situations, people, or places. Knowing that some of the desires can be caused by stress is one of the reasons we need to find ways to deal with it. It is most unlikely that we are completely stress-free. That doesn't mean that we need to just live with it as it is. There are different ways we can make our lives at least a little bit more relaxing. Once you get a hang of it it becomes easier to notice when you feel stressed out and also how to deal with it.

4 WAYS TO DEAL WITH A STRESSFUL SITUATION

1. TAKE A DEEP BREATH

When we find ourselves in stressful situations our breath tends to get shallow. It can make us feel more anxious and suffocating. Remember to take a few seconds and focus on your breath. Take 10 deep breaths. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. This is one of the most common methods to ease your mind. If that stressful situation isn't something you are actively dealing with right now I recommend trying to do Yoga. Yoga is a great way to connect your breath with movements and your mind. There are a lot of different videos you can find online.

If you are a beginner I recommend you practice with Yoga With Adriene. Adriene provides a variety of different Yoga practice videos. Mediation is also one of the great ways to take your mind of things that are stressing you. It will give you clarity and you'll be able to deal with it easier. Once you make this a habit you will notice how your breath is getting deeper once your body feels stressed. It will become one of the mechanisms it fights against stress.

2. STAY CALM

If you are going through a stressful event the one thing you need to have in mind is to stay calm. I know that it is easier said than done. There might be a situation when you just can't leave that stressful event immediately. When we're under pressure we tend to react without thinking and end up regretting it later. There are a lot of emotions going through our bodies and a lot of thoughts circling through our minds. Some of them are overexaggerated. Although it may not seem like that at that moment.  What we are going through may seem worse than it is.  Make your mission to stay as calm as you can.

Don't let your feelings overpower and make the situation even worse.  If you are a naturally emotional person then this might be challenging for you. It is all about the practice. Combining deep breathing with rational thinking is one of the things that can help you. We often stay in that exact moment and don't have a bigger perception. Think about the effect of your reaction in the future. If you can it is always best to just step aside or leave. Once you are completely calm then you can go and deal with it.

3. VENT ABOUT IT

Most people deal with stressful situations in a way they try to completely ignore or push them down. That way they are only making it worse. Sooner or later that built-up stress will come up and it's not going to be nice. The better way to deal with it is to vent about it. Talk it out either with a friend. They can help you see it from a different perspective. If you don't want to talk to anyone then the journal is your best friend. The only way to deal with stressful events is to try and find a solution.

Even if you don't have a journal, grab an empty notebook or a piece of paper, and start writing. Writing is a great way to express your feelings as it requires you to slow down and think about what you want to write. Some people find venting a negative thing. I'm not applying to self-pitying or making something look worse so you can look better. Venting in this situation means getting your thoughts out so you can think clearer.

4. DO WHAT'S IN YOUR CONTROL

Often we worry and try to do things that are not under our control. We try to change a person or a situation that just can't be changed. When stress even occurs we think that we need to fix it right away. We try and try and try and feel even more stressed when we realize that things are not getting any better. One of the reasons behind that is that we can't control certain things or people. What we do have control over is how we think, speak, and act. Focus on those three things. You have the power to shift from negative thinking to positive one.

You have the ability to think before you speak and imagine what damage or help your words can make. You also have power over your actions, act the way that you won't harm yourself or others. We are not superheroes and we don't need to be. Sometimes we give ourselves more power than we actually have. However, as human beings, we have so certain power in our hands and often we forget about it.
