5 Cozy Fall Books You Need on Your Reading List

There’s just something magical about seasonal reading. I always try to match my books to the time of year, lighthearted romance in the summer, and cozy or romantasy books during fall and winter. It makes reading so much more fun and immersive.

This fall, I’ve put together a small but exciting TBR (to-be-read) list of books I’ll be picking up between now and December. Since I usually read 1–2 books a month, this feels like the perfect stack to keep me company during chilly evenings. All of these are books I’ve been curious about for a while, and I finally ordered them from Libristo to read over the next few months.

Here are the five books on my fall TBR! 🍁

1. Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore

Spoiler-free summary: A cozy, small-town romance full of warmth, friendship, and of course… pumpkin spice! The story follows a woman who finds herself back in a charming village, where she crosses paths with a grumpy but lovable local. Expect lots of autumn vibes, community spirit, and heartwarming romance.

Why it’s perfect for fall: The title says it all, cozy café scenes, pumpkin spice, and small-town charm. It feels like the ultimate fall comfort read.

Why I picked it: I’ve seen so many people talking about this book, and it just screams fall. I knew I had to include it in my seasonal reading list.

2. The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore by Laurie Gilmore

Spoiler-free summary: Another cozy read set in a charming small town, this story revolves around a quirky bookstore, a sprinkle of romance, and of course, cinnamon buns. It’s sweet, heartwarming, and feels like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket.

Why it’s perfect for fall: Bookstores + cozy treats = peak autumn vibes. This is the kind of book you want to read with a hot drink in hand.

Why I picked it: After hearing so many readers rave about it, I thought it would be perfect for the colder months. I love books that combine cozy food settings with a bookish theme.

3. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Spoiler-free summary: This fantasy follows Emily Wilde, a scholar of faeries who embarks on a research trip to study them in a remote village. It’s whimsical, atmospheric, and blends academic notes with magical storytelling.

Why it’s perfect for fall: Dark academia + faeries + a remote village setting make this the kind of book you want to curl up with on a rainy day.

Why I picked it: I’m new to fantasy, and this will only be my third fantasy book ever! I’m so excited to dive deeper into the genre, and this one feels like the perfect entry point.

4. She and Her Cat by Makoto Shinkai & Naruki Nagakawa

Spoiler-free summary: A beautifully told, slice-of-life story exploring the bond between humans and cats. Through interconnected short stories, the book captures love, companionship, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

Why it’s perfect for fall: Gentle, emotional, and heartwarming, this book feels like the literary equivalent of a warm cup of tea on a cool day.

Why I picked it: As someone who has six cats myself, I’ve had this on my radar for a while. I think it’ll be a very touching and relatable read for me.

5. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Spoiler-free summary: A dark fantasy heist novel featuring a crew of criminals who must pull off an impossible job. Packed with action, witty dialogue, and unforgettable characters, it’s one of the most popular YA fantasy books of the past decade.

Why it’s perfect for fall: Gritty, atmospheric, and full of twists, the kind of book that fits perfectly with long fall nights.

Why I picked it: I’ve seen this book everywhere on BookTok, BookTube, and Bookstagram. It’s about time I see what all the hype is about!
