TAGE Retinal Duo Review: My Experience With the Retinal Stick & PDRN Cream

One of the most important things when trying new skincare products is knowing your skin type and understanding the ingredients in your skincare routine. Since I have sensitive, combination, and acne-prone skin, I've learned the hard way how important it is to pay attention to how active ingredients feel on my skin. After years of testing skincare products, I now carefully choose products that fit into my existing routine.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try the TAGE Retinal Duo, featuring a retinal balm stick and a retinal PDRN pore cream. Retinal is one of those skincare ingredients that has become popular on social media, but many people start using it without learning enough about how it works or how to introduce it into their routines. Since my skin can be sensitive and prone to clogged pores, I wanted to see how these two Korean retinal products would make my skin look and feel.

My Skin Before Using the Products

Before getting into the review, I want to tell you a little about my skin. I have combination, acne-prone skin, and my biggest concerns include visible pores, cystic acne, post-acne marks, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation.

My skin is also very sensitive, so trying new products can be a gamble, especially when they contain active ingredients. I've tried retinal products in the past that caused some irritation, so I was particularly interested in seeing how my skin would respond to these two products.

Introducing the TAGE Retinal Duo

TAGE Vita A Retinal Multi Balm Stick

The TAGE Vita A Retinal Multi Balm Stick is a convenient, targeted skincare product designed to help improve the appearance of fine lines and give the skin a plumper-looking appearance. It can be applied to areas that need extra attention, such as the under-eye area or areas where fine lines are more noticeable.

The balm has a buttery texture that glides smoothly over the skin. Some balm sticks can feel waxy after application, but I found this one comfortable to use.

One of its key ingredients is retinal, a vitamin A derivative that supports skin cell turnover and can help improve the appearance of uneven skin texture and discoloration over time.

The formula also contains 6% Volufiline, an ingredient the brand promotes for its skin-plumping benefits. Combined with retinal, the balm is designed to help improve the appearance of fine lines while giving the skin a fuller-looking appearance. The formula also contains ingredients such as ceramides and panthenol that help support the skin barrier.

We all appreciate products that make our routines easier, and the convenient stick format is certainly practical. It's easy to apply directly to targeted areas without needing to scoop out product with your fingers.

TAGE Vita A Retinal PDRN Pore Booster Cream

The TAGE Vita A Retinal PDRN Pore Booster Cream has a rich, buttery texture that melts into the skin as you massage it in. The cream has a yellow color, but I didn't notice any visible yellow residue after applying it. It's also comfortable to wear, without the greasy or sticky finish that I sometimes experience with richer creams.

Like the balm stick, this cream contains retinal. However, it uses liposome retinal, which the brand highlights for its targeted approach to improving the appearance of pores and uneven skin texture.

Another ingredient worth mentioning is PDRN, which has become increasingly popular in Korean skincare. It is one of my favorite skincare ingredients to use when my skin feels irritated and inflamed. The formula also contains moisturizing and skin-conditioning ingredients that help keep the skin hydrated and support the skin barrier.

The cream is designed to target concerns such as enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, early signs of aging, dehydration, and loss of firmness.

How I Used the Products

I tested both products for one week. Since I have sensitive skin, I decided to keep my skincare routine minimal during the testing period.

In the morning, I used a gentle cleanser to wash my face. I also applied the Retinal Multi Balm Stick to areas I wanted to target, including my under-eye area, cheeks, and forehead.

For my nighttime skincare routine, I cleansed my skin with a gentle cleanser and applied the Retinal PDRN Pore Booster Cream.

Throughout the testing period, I avoided using other potentially irritating active ingredients alongside retinal. This meant taking a break from exfoliating acids such as AHAs and BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, other retinoids such as retinol, tretinoin, and adapalene, and my usual vitamin C products.

Since retinal can cause irritation, especially when introduced too quickly, I wanted to keep my routine simple and make it easier to notice how my skin responded to the products.

My Results and Impressions

After just three days of using the TAGE Retinal Stick and PDRN Pore Booster Cream, I noticed that my skin looked brighter and my complexion appeared more even.

As I mentioned earlier, I naturally have a lot of hyperpigmentation and discoloration. My skin is also sensitive to the sun, and the freckles on my nose and cheeks become much more noticeable during the summer. During my testing period, I felt that my complexion looked brighter and more even.

I also have post-acne marks on my cheeks, and I noticed that some of them appeared less noticeable. However, one week is a relatively short testing period, so I'll need more time to determine whether these changes continue.

Thankfully, I didn't experience any noticeable adverse reactions to either product during the week I tested them. One of my biggest concerns was whether my skin could tolerate retinal, as a compromised skin barrier can make it more difficult to tolerate active ingredients.

I didn't notice any irritation, clogged pores, or new breakouts during the testing period, which was a positive experience for my sensitive, acne-prone skin.

As the seasons change, the drier areas of my skin tend to become more dehydrated. I found that the retinal cream helped keep my skin hydrated, while the balm stick added moisture to the areas where I applied it. Together, they left my skin looking healthier and feeling more comfortable.

My Tips for Using the TAGE Retinal Multi Balm Stick and PDRN Pore Booster Cream

My biggest tip when trying any new skincare product is to start slowly. Follow the product's directions, patch-test first, and avoid introducing several strong active ingredients at once. This is particularly important if you have sensitive skin.

We all have different skin types, concerns, and lifestyles, so it's important to have realistic expectations. Don't expect dramatic changes after just a few applications. Similarly, just because a product works well for someone else doesn't mean it will necessarily work the same way for you.

I found the balm stick convenient for applying product directly to targeted areas. If you prefer a more targeted approach to skincare, a stick format can be a practical addition to your routine.

For the PDRN Pore Booster Cream, I recommend following the brand's nighttime-use guidance and introducing it gradually, especially if you're new to retinal. Remember to use sunscreen during the day when incorporating retinal into your skincare routine.

If you have sensitive skin, pay attention to how your skin responds and reduce or stop use if you experience persistent irritation.

My Final Verdict

Dealing with acne, clogged pores, and constant breakouts can make you skeptical of every new skincare product. You know how frustrating it can be when something that promises to improve your skin ends up making it worse.

Finding products that fit into a routine for sensitive, acne-prone skin can be challenging, especially when it comes to active ingredients such as retinal.

After one week of testing the TAGE Retinal Duo, I'm happy that both products fit into my routine without causing noticeable irritation or new breakouts. I also noticed that my complexion looked brighter and felt more hydrated during the testing period.

Of course, one week isn't enough to judge the long-term effects of retinal on fine lines, pores, or hyperpigmentation. I'm interested in continuing to monitor how my skin responds over time and seeing whether the improvements I noticed become more noticeable with continued use.

Overall, my first impressions of the TAGE Retinal Duo have been positive, and I'm looking forward to seeing how these products perform as part of my skincare routine in the longer term.
