Copenhagen is one of those cities that captures your heart the moment you arrive, the colorful waterfronts, cozy cafĂ©s, and bike-filled streets make it feel straight out of a postcard. But let’s be honest: while it’s stunning, it’s also not exactly the cheapest place to eat out. Between designer coffee shops and fine-dining restaurants, finding a delicious yet budget-friendly meal in Copenhagen can feel like a challenge… until you discover Fabro.
On my recent trip to Copenhagen at the end of September, I made it my mission to find good food that didn’t break the bank. Before I even landed, I had a list of highly rated spots I wanted to try, and Fabro, a small pasta restaurant right in the heart of the city, quickly stood out. Their website promised fresh, simple dishes made with high-quality ingredients and, best of all, prices that felt refreshingly reasonable for Copenhagen. That combination was too tempting to pass up.
In my Copenhagen travel video, I actually take you along to some of the city’s must-see locations, from iconic landmarks to hidden local gems, and of course, Fabro makes an appearance! You’ll see the atmosphere, the food, and exactly why this little restaurant became one of my top recommendations. If you’re planning your own Copenhagen trip, make sure to give it a watch before you go (video linked below 👇).
A Budget-Friendly Gem in the Heart of Copenhagen
Copenhagen is one of those cities that can quickly eat into your travel budget, especially when it comes to food. But every now and then, you stumble upon a place that offers both quality and affordability, and Fabro is exactly that. Located in the city center, Fabro is a pasta lover’s dream with its fresh ingredients, simple yet flavorful dishes, and welcoming atmosphere.
I actually discovered Fabro while researching budget-friendly restaurants with good reviews before my trip. I wanted to find a place that locals love but that also feels authentic and relaxed, not overly touristy. As soon as I saw the photos of their pasta, I knew I had to try it.
The Fabro Experience
When I arrived at the end of September, the place was buzzing with energy. Fabro has that perfect mix of cozy and lively, the kind of spot where you instantly feel at home. The restaurant is small and intimate, which adds to its charm, but it also means it can get quite busy. There was a short line when we got there, but it moved quickly, and the friendly staff made the wait totally worth it.
We decided to sit indoors since it was a bit chilly, though there are also outdoor tables if you visit in warmer months. Inside, the tables are closely set, giving it that authentic “Italian street cafĂ©” feeling. You can tell it’s a favorite among both locals and tourists, there’s a constant hum of conversation, laughter, and the comforting aroma of freshly cooked pasta filling the air.
What We Ordered
We ordered two dishes: the Carbonara Pasta and the Pomodoro Pasta. Both were absolutely delicious! The portions were just right, generous enough to feel full but not overstuffed. The Carbonara had the perfect balance of creamy sauce and salty pancetta, while the Pomodoro was light, flavorful, and bursting with the taste of fresh tomatoes.
For a city like Copenhagen, where eating out can be pricey, Fabro offers really good value. A pasta dish costs around 14 euros, which is honestly such a great deal considering the quality and location. They also serve focaccia, which looked amazing, definitely something I’d try next time.
Tips for Visiting Fabro
If you’re planning to visit, I highly recommend going a bit earlier, especially during colder months when everyone wants to sit inside. The indoor space is small and fills up fast. Luckily, the service is quick, and even if there’s a short wait, it’s worth it.
You can easily reach Fabro by walking from Nørreport Station or taking public transport, it’s located quite centrally, so it fits perfectly into a sightseeing day. Whether you’re exploring Nyhavn, Rosenborg Castle, or just wandering through Copenhagen’s charming streets, Fabro makes a perfect lunch or dinner stop.
Final Thoughts
If you’re in Copenhagen and craving comforting, homemade-style pasta without breaking the bank, Fabro should be at the top of your list. Between the friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food, it’s one of those spots that makes you want to come back again and again.
