Is What You’re Doing Now Going to Help Your Future Self?

How often do you think about your future? It’s easy to think about it as something that is so far away and we have a lot of time until it comes. We usually daydream about it and don’t actually think too much in details as it’s something so abstract in our mind. If you think about it in a different way, you now were just a future to you 5 or 10 years ago. Take some time and try to remember where you wished to be when you were 5 years younger and if you’re really there now.

When we are doing certain things in the present we don’t actually think about the impact it will have on our future self. I know some people have a 5 or even 10 year plan but I think that most of us just try to wing it. 5 years is a lot and a little in the same time. It depends on your time management and organization as well as on your focus and hard work. Every time we try to postpone some important tasks and decisions in our life we are probably making harm to our future self.

“Tomorrow you will wish you had started today.” is a quote usually used to motivate the ones that want to start to work out and eat healthy. I definitely think that you can apply it to your whole life. Stop for a minute and write down the things you really want to accomplish in life. They can be big or small but be sure that they are as realistic as they can be. Put them somewhere where you are going to be able to see them every day and whenever you start to procrastinate or feel uninspired look at them and ask yourself is what you’re doing right now going to help your future self.

You can even go a step further and imagine your future self. Think about what you’re doing, how you’re feeling, where you’re living, etc. Imagine the perfect life you want to live in 5 years time and think about the things you can do right this moment to go one step closer to it. Not every day is the same so don’t put too much pressure on yourself. If you are presently doing at least one thing that will help you achieve your big goals then that’s great.

We all want to be happy and life a life of our dreams, the thing is that most of get lost on the way and is not sure how to achieve it. I think that this is an important question you should ask yourself as frequently as possible as it will hopefully motivate you and put at least one part of your life in perspective.
